Buyer/Planner

Job Overview

This position will be responsible for the purchase of materials for multiple facilities ensuring that material arrival and service expectations are met. A strong understanding of the purchases process, supply environment, MRP and inventory management is required.

Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Understand the purchasing process and supply environment.
  • Purchase of materials for multiple facilities ensuring material arrival and service expectations are met.
  • Negotiate quotations and contracts for quality, delivery, cash discount, rebates, and warranties.
  • Join a collaborative team of buyers sharing information on vendor selection, negotiation, vendor relationships, inventory considerations, and other information as required in the buying position.
  • Assist the Director of Materials as required.
  • Source new vendor opportunities.
  • Order expedites.
  • Act in support for information to share with other corporate departments including accounting, engineering, manufacturing, customer service, and sales.
  • Participate in the disposition of slow moving inventory.
  • Maintain global awareness of raw material changes in price and availability and communicate internally.
  • Annual and bi-annual vendor assessments.
  • Prepare and analyze material reports, approve discrepant invoices and freight bills, reconcile inventory discrepancies.
  • Attend departmental meetings as scheduled.
  • Participate in specific measurable departmental goals including cost savings/avoidance and inventory management.

Minimum Job Requirements

  • Strong negotiating skills a must; MRP knowledge and understanding; basic computer skills (Word, Excel); inventory management knowledge.
  • Sight correctable to 20/20, full hearing and speech capabilities. Manual dexterity sufficient for keyboard input and writing.  Basic personal mobility.

Desired Skills and Experiences

  • CPM/APICS preferred
  • B.S. or B.A. preferred
  • International purchasing experience involving customs and letter of credits helpful

Training

  • Purchasing and inventory seminars/workshops.
  • Minimum of 2 years CPM/APICS training.
  • Contract negotiation training.
  • Membership in local chapter of NAPM.
