Pulaski, NY - Fulton (www.fulton.com), the global manufacturer of steam, hydronic and thermal fluid heat transfer products and provider of innovative energy management solutions, is being recognized for making health in the workplace a number one priority for its employees.

Fulton has been named as the recipient of the UnitedHealthcare Healthy Workplace Award, which honors companies that have innovative wellness programs in place for all employees --with demonstrable results.

According to Fulton VP/General Manager for US Operations Kathy Sega, successful Wellness Programs based at companies with a link to a medical field are becoming more universal, since a commitment to health and wellness is built right into their product and service culture. But the same cannot be said for large manufacturing facilities, especially those with a unique mix of unionized and non-unionized labor forces. This kind of wellness program success story is noteworthy.

"At Fulton, we proudly have just such a program," Sega said. "There is great benefit in sharing this message with similar facilities: it can be accomplished."

Fulton's approach to employee wellness begins with an active steering committee, which guides an annual, comprehensive program.  Program features include physical activity events, competitions, education, health screenings, healthy cooking lessons, smoking cessation events, stress management activities, reading materials, and holiday weight challenges.

Fulton also sponsors athletes and holds employee sporting events, and places emphasis on including employees' spouses, children, and other family members.  Fulton is in the final stages of a 112,000 square foot expansion to its Pulaski, NY headquarters; one facet of the project is an on-site workout center.

Top companies for the Healthy Workplace Award were selected by a panel of independent judges. Judges evaluated nominations based on a combination of quantitative and qualitative information about company wellness and fitness programs, as well as incentives that foster healthy lifestyles.

"The greatest benefit we see at Fulton is an overall culture of wellness due to the extremely high rate of employee participation," said Joy Zimmerman, Fulton's Director of Wellness. "We see our Wellness Program continuing to respond to employee interests and needs."

Fulton and the award program's other finalists were honored at a luncheon and presentation in September. The UnitedHealthcare Healthy Workplace Award is a national program with regional recognition and sponsor partnerships.
